Unique and Barrier Free Activities.

Our Recreation Program runs in the evenings and on weekends, providing unique and interactive activities and events.

We offer a variety of events year-round that are inclusive and lots of fun! Members are supported in a 1:4 ratio by staff and volunteers or can choose to bring a support person with them.

Below are all the types of Recreation Events we offer at Sunrise.

Art Workshop

Members will get creative with the guidance of staff and volunteers. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Members will bring home any beautiful creations made at our workshop! Some common themes or activities include painting, drawing, DIY projects and more!

Cooking Class

Members will learn the basic skills of cooking. They will have the opportunity to taste their culinary creations. Members will bring home a beautiful and professionally printed recipe card. With our brand new double stove kitchen members will have the space and support to become confident chefs.

Dance

Members will dance the night away with their friends! Enjoy some delicious snacks and beverages. Bust a move or take in the ambiance on a comfy couch. Every Dance has a fun and creative theme! Dress up and have fun with us.

Rock N Bowl

Members will have a blast with friends during Rock 'n Bowl at Leisure Lanes on a Saturday Night. Lights are dimmed (non-strobing) with tunes rocking as we spend two hours honing their bowling skills. If members wish to bring money they can purchase something from the concession or the vending machines.

Dinner & Movie Night

Members will learn the basic skills of cooking with the guidance of staff and volunteers as they prepare a delicious meal. After the meal everyone will get comfortable on the couches and watch a movie on the Sunrise Big Screen with surround sound.

Pub Night

Join us at the Sunrise building for our own version of a Pub Night. Dinner is provided through delicious pub themed foods. Each Pub Night will have a different theme that will center around fun activities including Dancing, Karaoke, Games and Trivia!

Sunrise Saturday

Sunrise Saturdays are respite, community and fun! Spend a full day supported by qualified staff at Sunrise. Members will learn about various topics, engage in fun activities, develop important life skills and build friendships! Activity supplies and support included, members will bring their own food, water bottle and snacks. This is respite like you’ve never seen before!

Sunrise Live

Throughout the year we will periodically offer events called Sunrise Live which are various shows or performances in the community. Past shows and events we have attended were Elf: The Musical, The Descendants, Spongebob the Musical and Disney on Ice.

Cabin Retreat

Members will spend a weekend of respite surrounded by nature and friends at Camp Samac in the beautiful Kitchie Lodge. They will have the opportunity to participatein a multitude of fun camp activities such as campfires, nature walks, movie nights,dancing, crafts and more!

New Year's Eve

Join us at Camp Samac in the beautiful Kitchie Lodge for a formal, overnight New Year's Eve celebration! Full staff support is provided for the entirety of the event. Hors d'oeuvres and fancy beverages will be offered throughout the evening. Members will spend the evening dancing, celebrating, socializing and taking photos with our themed backdrop. Dance the night away with friends and ring in the New Year with style!

Sunrise Summer Camp

Join Sunrise for a week full of fun and excitement. The bus will leave Sunrise on August 19th and will return on August 25th. The week and individual Cabins are always themed! The camp is fully catered and supported by Sunrise staff, volunteers, nurses and lifeguards giving you peace of mind. Camp Activities include campfires, sports, swimming, crafts and more! Sunrise rents Camp Kodiak and plans and implements the camp support.

“Food has always been important to Kristen, so she was excited about the opportunity to learn some cooking skills. The Sunrise cooking classes have been an enjoyable learning experience for her. Using the recipe cards, she has tried preparing some of the dishes at home: Kristen is The Chef and her Mom is the sous-chef.

"The cooking classes help me to be independent and to live in a condo some day."

Registration Process

Before attending Recreational Programs, all potential members are asked to come in for a tour and interview.
